What’s the story about? What do you think about the story?
The story of the book is about a woman living in a street called mango street, but the book tells us about how her real life is. She is a Chicano person living in a strange country for her. (…) The story isn’t like the stories from the TV series, like for example Graceland, where the Chicanos are always the bad guys.
- Fagner Hemann Bitencourt
The story is about a girl that lives on Mango Street. She talks about conflicts, violence, and resistance. I considered a wrong book with lots of polemics. (…) But I identify myself with this story. I lived many events like the ones written in this book.

Dear friend! The story of Sandra Cisneros’s book, The House on Mango Street, takes us to her childhood (…), to a simple house on Mango Street. It’s an inspiring story.
- Maristela Santos
This story is about changes to new directions. (…) It made me reflect or to wonder about simple thinks that make us happy.

The house on Mango Street is a story about a girl called Esperanza. It tells the story of her life living on mango street with her family. Esperanza is clever and innocent at the same time; she suffers prejudice because she is a Mexican girl living in the USA and other things like the way she talks. It is a wonderful book because it talks about many problems of society in a softy way, with a child touch of imagination.

I just read Sandra Cisneros The House on Mango Street, which is a short simple novel, easy to read, but also deep. The story is about this girl, who happens to be Mexican-American, dealing with her identity, trying to find a place to herself, to be safe from male dominated culture. I truly recommend this book. I found it rather enjoyable and, though general simple, it does can bring you to tears. It is deep enough and also, as I said, short. It’s sensitive, poetic. A nice summer reading to take to the beach and read in a cloudy rainy afternoon.

It’s about a woman who lives on Mango Street. But she isn’t happy there. When she moved to this street, she thought that she could be happy. But this street wasn’t like she imagined. She was ashamed of her house. The story tells us about violence, loss of innocence, loneliness etc. I liked the story because it makes us think about violence and how those things are terrible. We can see how much she suffered.
- Amanda Lemos
It’s about a young woman called Esperanza, who moved on to Mango Street, thinking that the house was better (…). I think the story is great, a little dramatic, but I know that happens to women in a culture that is male dominated.
- Lucas Garcia
The story is about a girl that suffered many important changes (…). The story goes deep on the most mysterious thoughts and feelings of the narrator and the characters.

Hi! I want to tell you about a book I read. Last class, It’s about a story of a girl that grew on a house, on a street called “Mango Street”. The plot shows a girl growing in an environment full of sexism, social inequality, and the culture of Chicanos. I found this book very enlightening over Chicano’s life and culture living on a place different from there roots. I believe it is worth reading!

The book tells stories of a girl, Esperanza, she has moved on with her family, but she didn't like the house. It wasn't like she imagined. The book also tells about Esperanza's growing up, about her fears and her feelings. "ABORDANDO" themes like: violence, resistance, loss of innocence, loneliness, sexuality- sexism, gender and others. The Story is very interesting , because the narrator tells about Esperanza’s life and the searching for her identity; we can found many points in common with our life.

The book The House on mango street , it's so exciting, because I didn't read all the book, but I almost cried reading just a few pages. The book is about a girl named Esperanza. In the story, she is growing up and she is telling about her life in her neighborhood.

This story is about a woman's life. She always lived in rent houses and she dreamt with a house of her own, but when she did get this house, she was disappointed living in a neighborhood where she felt afraid and experienced loss of identity. I think it is very interesting to know this story because it is about a strong woman that represents all others that live the same problem. The character is an example of struggle.

My short story is called “Rice sandwich”. It is about the frustrations of a girl in a school. She wanted to eat her lunch in another place, but the nun did not allow it and the girl felt depressed. She was oppressed because she remained in silence.
- Theline Ribeiro
The story is a story of Esperanza, a Latin girl who lived in Mango Street. It shows the reality of the people of mango street and the will to change their lives.
- Marcia Charqueiro
The story tells about a girl that moved with her family to Mango Street. There she lives various situations as growing up, makes friends, loses innocence, constructs her identity. I think the story is very nice, but a little difficult understand.

The story is about Esperanza, a strong chicana girl, who lives in the E.U.A. The name of this book is The house on Mango street. Her name is her great-grandmother's. The story is sad and I think the story is difficult to read.
- Nathalia Travassos Lima
The story is about a Mexican girl who had moved on many times and she is always looking for a house, physical and metaphorical. At the sametime she is building herself as a person. I recommend this book because it is an easy reading, also fantastic, full of symbolism, aches and subjects.

“The House on Mango Street”, by Sandra Cisneros, is nice and you should read it. It’s about a girl who moved to the periphery of Chicago (she’s Chicana and was always moving home, until there). Before being there, she thought (her name is Esperanza), that everything could be great, but it was not this way. The girl saw and passed for many problems involving gender, identity, lass of innocence, violence, sexism etc. She felt she didn’t belong there and decided to move in her own house. I enjoyed it very much. The book’s structure is like pieces of cut experiences, one complementing the other. I had to tell I read the book thinking of a friend.
